Buildings, streets, shops, noises, and the air—there are these familiar places, sights, sounds, and tones that make us feel at home. That sense of warmth and fuzziness, the feeling of belonging they bring, is a different kind of bliss—a near-perfect peace.
MG Road is one such place for me. Even as I say it out loud, “MG Road” makes me feel at home. Bangalore has transformed over the years, shifting from green to grey, and with it, MG Road has changed too. While its form has evolved with new structures, the experience of walking down that road has not lost its charm.
A morning walk along MG Road is a pleasure of an unusual kind that never fails to enchant. The atmosphere, the journey, and those little nooks that have endured the city’s changes bring a rush of memories to my mind. And after I’ve had my walk, it’s time for a good breakfast.
How about some Luchis, Mishti Cholaar Daal, and Dum Aloo at the charming little confectionery just around the curve on St. Mark’s Road? If you haven’t guessed, I’m talking about KC Das.
No, you don’t go there for a buffet spread. You go there for a perfectly crafted plate of Luchis (fried puffed Indian bread), Mishti Cholaar Daal (sweet Bengal gram curry), and Dum Aloo (potato gravy), followed by their thoughtfully brewed chai.
The smell of ghee, the sight of hot, puffed luchis, the sweetness of the daal, and the MG Road morning—together, they create a combination of pleasure and tranquility that must not be missed. This Bengali delight is sure to bring your tranquil morning to a rich, satisfying finish.
I can’t fully describe it—it’s something you have to feel for yourself. So here’s my suggestion: skip the English breakfast in the vicinity and treat yourself to this good old Indian experience instead.
